SpaceX’s Starship rocket is leading the new frontier of reusable and cost-efficient space travel. During its early stages of development in 2020, I produced some concept renders of Starship launching from a floating launch platform fashioned from a retired oil rig that SpaceX had recently purchased with the intention of converting.

As of current, plans for an offshore launch platform seemed to have fizzled out, but at the time, the renders represented a vision for the future of spaceflight, sparking excitement and discussion within the space community, and even garnering attention from SpaceX’s CEO himself.
